How to access a PC on another network without port forwarding
The PC is at home, the office or a customer’s shop, behind a router you don’t control. Here is how to reach it in a few minutes — no router settings, no VPN.
Why the usual ways are hard
Windows’ own Remote Desktop needs an open port on the router or a VPN, and both need someone with access to the network. Most home and office routers also hide the PCs behind one shared public address, so you cannot simply connect to them from outside.
How VVDesk gets through
Both PCs make outgoing connections to VVDesk’s servers, which every router allows. The servers introduce the two devices, and VVDesk then tries to connect them directly, peer to peer — the fastest route.
If a direct route is not possible, the session goes through VVDesk’s relay. Either way it is encrypted end to end between the two devices, so the relay only carries data it cannot read.
If the connection is slow
Choose Speed in the session toolbar. If you always land on the relay, the network does not allow direct connections — your IT team can allow VVDesk’s direct connections.
Questions
Do I need a static IP address?
No. VVDesk finds the PC by its desk ID, wherever it is and however its address changes.
Does it work through a corporate firewall?
Usually yes, because VVDesk only needs outgoing connections. Where a direct route is blocked, the session goes through the encrypted relay.
Is it safe without a VPN?
Yes. Every session is encrypted end to end, our servers are checked against a certificate built into the app, and nothing starts without the person’s yes or the PC’s password.
